How we check prices

Supplier evidence first. Human review for manual prices. Clear dates and an honest record of changes.

Prices are never generated or estimated by AI.

AI can help read an official document and flag uncertainty. It cannot approve a tariff or invent a missing rate. Estimated annual bills are calculated separately from supplier prices and your comparison answers.

1. Start with official evidence

For manual tariffs, we use official Tariff Information Labels (TILs) or supplier quote screenshots. We check the standing charge, unit rates, cheap hours, VAT, region and eligibility. We never copy a price from one region into another.

2. Review and approve

A person compares the draft with the original and records supporting evidence before approval. Missing information, unusual rates and unsupported charging rules must be resolved. Originals and approved revisions remain private; price changes are retained in our history.

3. Import Octopus prices daily

The automatic import reads Octopus Energy's public API. A daily import is not a claim that Matt manually checked the tariff that day. When two sources disagree, the affected price is hidden while we investigate.

4. Review regularly

Our target is a weekly review of manual prices and new offers, and a monthly review of market coverage, eligibility and source links. Those human checks are not yet automated or independently audited, so we show the actual recorded dates rather than claiming a completed weekly or monthly check.

5. Hide stale or disputed prices

Tariffs not checked in the last 60 days are excluded from results. Retired, expired, disputed and disabled-source prices are also excluded. Admin highlights tariffs due for review after 30 days.

6. Correct mistakes openly

If you spot a wrong price, report it. We check the source, correct the affected record and publish a plain-English summary in the corrections log. We don't publish the reporter's contact details.
