Data sources
Where our information comes from, and what a recorded check date actually means.
Supplier Tariff Information Labels and official quotes
We check the original PDF or supplier screenshot for regional rates, VAT, cheap hours and eligibility. Private originals and approved revisions are retained.
Review frequency: Checked manually before approval. Weekly review is our target, not an automated guarantee.
Octopus Energy public API
The supplier's published prices are imported. Disagreements with another source are held back for review. An API refresh is not a named human check.
Review frequency: Automatic daily import; every result shows its recorded check date.
Ofgem energy price cap
Regional electricity unit rates and standing charges provide a comparison baseline. If the current quarter hasn't been checked, savings against it are not shown.
Review frequency: Quarterly updates entered manually; monthly review is our target.
Government charging statistics and reports
Government publications inform guides and news, not supplier prices. Articles link to the specific report and show their update date.
Review frequency: Checked when writing or updating an article; monthly source review is our target.
Government tax and Budget guidance
Official guidance is used to check tax treatment. We do not invent missing prices or assume a tax rate without evidence.
Review frequency: Reviewed when guidance changes and when dated reminders become due.
Public charging network pages and open feeds
Checked network rates remain separate from location data. Missing or implausible prices are held back.
Review frequency: Open feed imports run daily; manual prices need review. The comparison stays closed until eight networks have fresh prices.
Not a live data source
HERE charger search is switched off. Licensed tariff feeds are not connected. Neither is used to manufacture checked prices. Each tariff page links to its supplier source; each guide and news article links to its specific evidence.
