A monthly snapshot of what it costs to charge an electric car in the UK, at home and in public. Latest: November 2026.
The index started in November 2026, so there are only a few months so far. Trends will become clearer over time.

How this index is built
- We take one snapshot on the 1st of each month. Past months are never changed; any correction is added as a note.
- Home overnight EV rate: for each electricity region, the cheapest overnight rate among the EV tariffs we've checked in the last 60 days. The figure is the middle value (median) across regions.
- Price cap unit rate: the average of Ofgem's regional price cap unit rates for standard variable tariffs.
- Public prices: each network's cheapest pay-as-you-go price at that speed, checked in the last 60 days. The figure is the median across networks.
- Pence per mile assumes 3.5 miles per kWh and allows for energy lost while charging. Full details are on how we compare.
- Coverage changes as we add tariffs and networks, which can move the figures on its own. Each month records how many it's based on; see the CSV for exactly which were included.
